"Visiting John Masters's four-chair salon is as intoxicating as a trip to a botanical garden.
'No perms, no nails, nothing that reeks,' Masters explains, surveying his wonderfully aromatic headquarters, an intimate space that looks and feels like an old-school apothecary (and will double in size when he expands next door later this summer).
Masters imports ammonia-free color from Italy, then mixes it with essential oils and silk protein to effect hues that look and feel as good as anything achieved with syntheric products.
My highlights were a gorgeous, subtle shade of coppery blond. Masters's eponymous hair-cair line is sold in the store and contains steam-distilled essential oils, organically grown herbal extracts and mild, sulfate-free cleansing agents."
